ANGELINA STEPANIAN

Artist Statement
My work delves into the raw essence of being human – our shared landscape of feelings and emotions. Each painting employs potent symbolism as a conduit, translating my own inner world into visual metaphors.
I explore the fundamental experience of existence: the exhilarating, the shameful, the joyous, and the unsettling. These universal currents connect us all. I believe that recognizing the validity of every feeling, and the profound understanding that we are never truly alone in them, fosters deep empathy and a sense of belonging to something greater.
Ultimately, my art seeks to illuminate the obvious with new intensity, using symbolic language to draw focus to the intricate inner lives we carry and the power of shared experience.”

Obscurity
The "Obscurity" series delves into the profound psychological landscape of internal entrapment and existential isolation. It viscerally renders the suffocating experience of confinement within the self—a state where the weight of the unknown induces paralytic stasis. Conceived and amplified during the global pandemic, the series embodies the collective mandate of enforced retreat, compelling an inescapable confrontation with the solitary psyche.
Specific works within the cycle, such as "Asphyxia: Triptych," articulate the acute psychological sequelae of this isolation: the corrosive uncertainty of an obscured future, and the visceral escalation of fear into near-panic.

"The Last Little Bit of Innocence"

Over recent years, our world has shifted profoundly; the pandemic and war have become unsettling constants. The painting "The Last Little Bit of Innocence" depicts a child wielding a wooden sword, defying the overwhelming darkness of our world. It serves as a metaphor for enduring hope—however small—that persists even through the bleakest times.
